Reflection Statement
These three sculptures, Crescent Fortress, the Collapsed Circus, and Eye of the Storm, all express a similar theme of imbalance. The Crescent Fortress is sharp and looks dangerous, while the Collapsed Circus is an abandoned, bedraggled, and carefree; then finally, Eye of the Storm while the spiral is balanced, the eye itself and the halo it has is anything but poised.
While I created my sculptures, I didn't want them to look similar at all. I believe I succeeded with their uniqueness and individuality. The instability of something unbalanced is a given, something I find really beautiful when it somehow works. It defies all odds - just take a look at the bumblebee. It's so fascinating how they work. I was aiming to create something that technically 'shouldn't' work.
With Crescent Fortress, it's the hanging slim piece of wood, with the Collapse Circus, it's the 'tightrope', and with the Eye of the Storm, the entire structure is unsteady.
Each piece stands as a testament to the tension between chaos and cohesion. Though visually distinct, all three sculptures explore the beauty found within instability, how balance can exist even when it appears impossible. This exploration has not only shaped the way I approach materials and form, but also strengthened my appreciation for the unpredictable elegance that emerges when things almost fall apart, but don’t. In the future, I'd like to continue exploring about the beauty of imbalance and discord.
